Registration Opens March 1st for the 2024 Cattle Camps
I grew up on a ranch and have always loved being around livestock. My father, Robert Sweeting was an excellent stockman and he taught me the importance of good stockmanship. I feel so fortunate to have had the opportunity to work with my Father for many years. As I traveled around to other ranches and stockdog trials around the country I saw a real need for people to have the opportunity to see and learn to be better stock handlers. I wanted to share the value of a good stockdog and how to go about getting it started and trained to be a productive part of your operation. I will try to teach you how to train a dog to have quiet confidence on cattle. I do start all my dogs on sheep before I put them on cattle. Sheep are safer for a young dog and it is easier for the handler to see the dog and what it is thinking. I want my dogs to have a firm foundation on sheep before introducing them on cattle. They should be able to call off the stock, have some basic commands (down, stay, that'll do come, and the start of side commands) before putting them on cattle.
